US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics Member Anna Tunnicliffe Wins Gold at French Olympic Sailing Week in Hyères, France
HYERES, France (April 24) - US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics member Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, Fla.) has done it again: she has won another gold medal at an ISAF World Cup event. This time around, Tunnicliffe showed her dominance in Hyères, France, site of French Olympic Sailing Week. The 2008 Olympic gold medalist has now won her third ISAF Sailing World Cup event.
Tunnicliffe won the event after a week-long comeback in today's Laser Radial Medal Race. After a slow start in the regatta, Tunnicliffe had been making up ground on the leaders throughout the week and today she showed why she's currently the world's top Laser Radial sailor with a decisive performance when it mattered most. Going into today's medal race, Tunnicliffe had said she was looking forward to today's stronger conditions and she was able to build a big enough gap on her rival for gold, Veronika Fenclova (CZE), to take her to the top of the podium at today's medal ceremony.
Stuart McNay and Graham Biehl - sailing in the highly competitive men's 470 fleet - also competed in the medal races today and with an 8th-place finish in that race, they finished the regatta in 9th place overall.
