No one wants to be left at the dock, however forgetting about our joint and bone health could leave us potentially side-line.

Osteoporosis:

  • A disease of the bones, causing them to become more susceptible to breakage
  • The hips, spine and wrist are most at risk
  • Females are 4 times more likely to develop then men

Osteoarthritis:

  • The most common type of arthritis, also called “degenerative joint disease” or “osteoarthrosis”
  • Cartilage is the primary target

Cartilage:

  • The “cushion” located between two bones. This point of contact is a joint.

Bone:

  • A complex living tissue that makes up the structure (framework) supporting our body

Phew . . . Now that we covered the basics, how do we protect ourselves from having brittle bones and stiff joints?
The number one way is a balanced diet and exercise. We all get caught up in the day-to-day. We take for granted what we put into our bodies. How we take care of it has deeper benefits than simply making weight or fitting into those favorite pair of pants. Strict dieting that does not encourage a balance diet takes away from your bone and joint health.  Extreme exercise combined with poor diet will also impair your bone and joint health.

Balanced Diet + Moderate weight bearing exercise = healthier bones and joints!
