Porto Alegre, Brazil

Today was our lay-day of racing. As we advanced to the semi-finals yesterday, the repechage was held today to decide who the fourth person in the semi’s would be. After a long postponement for lack of breeze, the fleet finally went out and started racing around 1:30pm. Three flights were sailed, and the winner of the round was Great Briton’s Lucy Macgregor. Lucy will join the top three finishers from the first round robin in the semi-finals. The top four teams are us, Claire Leroy from France, Giulia Conti from Italy, and Lucy.

In the evening briefing, Team USA was given the opportunity to pick who we wanted to race against. We chose the French team and are looking forward to some good racing in the semi’s tomorrow. The series will be a best of five races, meaning the first boat to win three races will advance to the finals, and the looser will advance to the petit-finals. The other semi bracket will be fought against Lucy and Giulia. Racing starts tomorrow morning at 10am assuming the wind cooperates. Wind dependent, the day will end with the first race of the finals and the petit-finals.

I will write tomorrow to let you know how we are doing. You can follow the event at www.nationscup2009.com. Event photos can be seen at http://www.capizzano.com/ISAF_NATIONS_CUP_2009/index.htm
