It was windy on Wednesday. We waited around until about 4 PM, and when we went out the breeze was quickly building offshore. The first race we did ok. The second race we flipped at the leeward mark after a huge shift. We had to drop and try to finish on a jib reach. We got a little high and couldn't get the bearaway. On our way back upwind I realized one of the wing track holders on the starboard side had broken. We probably could have finished the race, but I was worried about doing further damage to the hull early in the season. We went in and replaced the metal fixture, but we assumed incorrectly that they would only do 3 races. We could have made it for the 4th race. In the end we had dropped from 9th after qualifying to 23rd after the first day of gold round racing. Oh well..

Thursday went well overall. We flipped in the first race at the leeward mark again but we had good speed and saved a few points. It was lighter in the second race, and Trevor spotted some good pressure on the left side before the start. We went off the line fast and finished with a second. It was a great way to finish off our first event in Europe on a good note. We will be back in June for Kiel Week, and then on to Worlds in Lake Garda in July. Stay tuned.
