Team Molly had an okay first day at the Semaines Olympique Francaise. The wind was quite unstable and light, shifting between a sea breeze and a storm cloud driven wind. There were 20-40 degree shifts, causing very difficult racing conditions.
The first race we got a little out of phase on the first beat, rounding the windward mark in 21st. We had great downwind boat speed, moving up to 16th place overall. The second race we had a great start and played the right side of the course. We rounded the first mark in 2nd place, where we stayed the rest of the race. Unfortunately, on the reach leg a race committee boat decided to pick up the mark and start moving it while we were sailing towards it. The race committee was forced to abandon the race. Bummer! The second try at race two did not go as well and counted. We got stuck in the middle of the course on the first beat. And then there was a huge left shift, leaving the course very skewed and with few passing opportunities. We passed as many boats as possible, finishing the race in 15th.
We are currently tied for 13th place overall. We have five more days of racing. Tomorrow's forecast is for more light air and rain. For complete results, please visit: http://sof.ffvoile.net/results/470w.htm
