Hello, Saw this yesterday, thought I'd pass it along. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155628 Shane McConkey was killed in a ski BASE accident in Italy. Obviously, that's an incredibly dangerous sport where death is a factor every day - but pease hold any spiteful, sarcastic comments. Sail fast, take chances.

Can't Afford CORK? Keep it Local

You might be a little worried about paying for your expensive regatta schedule. Money doesn’t grow on trees, and it certainly doesn’t grow in boats. If you’re looking to cut back a little maybe you should consider sailing close to home this summer rather than constantly traveling to regattas. If you’re like the rest of the world you’re thinking about canceling your trips, adventures and events because we’re in the middle of a bleak recession. Your sailing is probably on the bottom of a long list of other pri...

In sailing everyone knows a few kids in their district that just strait up have to win sailboat races. Also, everyone knows that these knuckle-heads may win races, but they almost never win regattas. Learning to control your inner knuckle-head will help your sailing. It might even help save it. One season in particular, our districts knuckle-head had her self epically stressed out about her sailing. At one of the bigger practices on the Charles she and her crew strung together a series of bad races, and despite coaches and friends efforts to c...

There are a lot of reasons to love girls. But there are even more reasons you should love sailing with them. So why don’t you? Last summer I was sailing on a four-person one-design keelboat with some friends from Boston. During week one of our program, the owner announced that he wanted a girl on board for Buzzards Bay Regatta (BBR). All summer, I knew she was going to be there and I had serious reservations. I thought, “It’s one thing to sail an FJ; it’s another thing to trim an asym.” I couldn't have been more w...

Should sailing compete with football? Does college sailing need new boats, or faster ones? Should college sailing become an NCAA sport? Top college sailors should become coaches! College sailing should become more commercialized! In a recent blog on sailgroove.org, (see College Sailing by Carson Marston), I read this sailor-rage about the state of college sailing and (i think) some proposals on how to improve the organization. While every person that has sailed for their college has had some complaints - the smiles are usually much wider than ...

Sailgroove is going to the Melges 24 North Americans in Annapolis and Chris got a full-ride press-pass for the event; which basically means that he gets to go attend any and all press conferences and get out on the water to cover the sailing. We started joking about humorous questions he could ask the (foreign) sailors but then we realized that there might be some other topics that the sailgroove audiences are actually interested in. So I started this blog to collect any question that you want to ask someone at this event. The best part, Chris ...
