old timer
as an old timer that does pretty well on the national team racing circuit, I can tell you right now, that team racing wins team racing regattas. Yes weight and hiking technique help, but that's only part. You are certainly being a sore loser if you are claiming conditions determined the event results. Just wait til your out of high school by SEVERAL years and you'll look back at these videos and really see just how many missed chances there were. |

So convert some backup skippers into heavy crews or whatever you have to do. If you want to win a nationals on SF Bay you've got to plan on heavy conditions. Granted, gusty conditions suck for team racing, but it is what it is. I'd imagine if nationals were at Hotchkiss the west coast teams would have plenty of trouble if they didn't bring light crews. |

Knowing how to hike and being huge is completely different. |

haha PL romped St. Georges because they hike harder, and they can stay upright in 20 knots (St. Georges #17 couldn't). They had all three off the line instead of just two, and were in controlling positions. |

very true, after the first few races of the day it was pretty much fleet racing with your teams, disappointing for those of us looking to do alot of really intense team racing. |

thank you AC...this is very true, the 2 nessa teams were at least 30 pounds lighter per boat than the cali teams. the teams that did well were not only heavy, but also fleet racing the whole regatta, it doesnt matter that the better teams won every start and team raced better...they were just not as fast in that breeze as the cali teams. |

personally I think this national regatta did not show who was the best high school team racing team. If the teams could of accually team raced... The outcome would of been very different. Sorry Cali teams...but good for you having 200 pound crews :-/ |

Right off the line St. George's was almost winning two pairs. |

I can tell you right now the REAL SG team is not complaining about the regatta. They congradulated the loma and newport harbor teams after the regatta and knew they were out-raced during the regatta. Before people start pointing fingers know that SG was/is not complaining at all. Congrats newport and loma.
