When big boats sail in storm winds they reduce sail. When little boats encounter storm winds, they usually go in. It doesn't have to be that way.

If you are running a minor and boats start capsizing in winds above 20, or a major with winds over 25, consider rolling the jibs up by wrapping them around the forestay. Is it considered wimpy? Yes but, not as wimpy as going in. It saves sailors from capsizing and saves boats and sails from damage. The best reason is you race when you otherwise might not.
You could leave the jibs off altogether but you will need to pull the mast forward somehow for balance, visibility, and reduced head banging. Sailors can balance the helm by raising the centerboard slightly. They will also want to over rotate when tacking to ensure good acceleration out of the tack.
Yes, you can even team race. Passbacks are all done the same way but without the jib ragging. It's standard practice in windy England with their tippy Fireflys.
