Originally from Newport, RI, Ewenson has competed in Optimists, Lasers, Laser 2s, and 420s on both the regional and national level throughout his sailing career. He has a strong background of organized team sailing and has had success at the highest level. In 2004, he won ICSA’s Team Racing National Championship with St. Mary's after finishing second the previous year.

Ewenson’s coaching experience ranges from teaching disabled sailing to collegiate level racing and a lot in between. He has coached at St Mary’s College, the University of Rhode Island, and the US Coast Guard Academy prior to his arrival at College of Charleston in 2006.

Ewenson continues to be an avid small boat racer and can be found at many of the top team racing events throughout the country. He is a proud member of the Woonsocket Rockets team race team, which finished 3rd and 4th at the 2007 and 2006 US Team Racing Championship (Hinman Trophy), respectively, and won both the USTRA’s 2007 Mid-Summah Classic and the 2007 SMC Open.
