Where/when do we get to watch the co-ed nationals? There has to be some sort of video coverage of it, right? |

The Gorge. An 80 mile stretch of wilderness along the Columbia River in the Cascades of northwest Oregon. Lewis and Clark came through here on their way to the Pacific Ocean in 1805. In modern times this route of the pioneers has become a mecca of North American sailing, thanks to its famously reliable big breeze. The venue has played host to many top-level events in recent years, including windsurfing, kiteboarding, Moths, and now the 2011 ICSA Spring Championships, hosted by the Columbia Gorge Racing Association. Sailgroove will be on hand to deliver coverage of the final three days of the Sperry Topsider Women's Championship May 24-26 and the entirety of the APS Team Racing National Championship May 27-29.
The Women's Championship kicked off today with the first day of the semifinal round. 18 teams are vying for 9 spots in the finals, where they will meet the 9 automatic qualifiers. Seedings are based on performance in each conference's championship regatta. As I write this the scores are current through race 6B, with Yale holding a 7 point lead and Brown, URI, USCGA, ODU, Georgetown, Eckerd, Harvard, and USF, also currently in the crucial top 9. Hawaii, despite a DSQ and a DNF, remain just 4 points behind the Bulls and very much in contention for a berth.
Who will advance to the finals? Can someone stop BC? Does Brown have a chance at a repeat of last year's title after coming close in the New England Championship? And who will come out on top of what is sure to be a tooth-and-nail team race event? Tune into our coverage over the next week to find out!
