Brown stain cant be removed by soap and water?

Ross Vegas 2 years ago

I bought a fiberglass boat that has what looks like brown dirt on a portion of a boat. But it may be not dirt because it is on another place on the boat where it looks like the boat sat on a wood beam. Traditional soap and water with scrubbing has not removed the brown stain. I would like to remove these spots because the spots are significantly less smooth than the rest of the fiberglass boat. Do you have any suggestions on what I could use to get rid of these brown spots?

FSR, avail at West Marine. We just turned 6 brown optis to gleaming white with this stuff last weekend - great for white gelcoat, but stay away from colors with it. Paint it on with a disposable foam brush and rinse it off. Starbrite Teflon Polish afterwards will get you glossy and keep you shining. :)

Ty-D-Bol Liquid Toilet Bowl Cleaner works great on fiberglass. It is acidic, so wear gloves and eye protection and rinse well. Then wetsand with 3M 600 grit Wet-or-Dry, You can ue a polish with rubbing compound to bring back the shine. Like 3M Clean-N-Glaze.

Good luck!

Try a Mr. Clean eraser sponge. I had good results on my laser hull with it. There was no noticeable problem. ie uneaven "fairness" of the hull.

we typically use a rubbing compound and use either an electric power buffer or old fashioned elbow grease with a clean rag. That will usually take care of any fiberglass stains as well as smooth over any small/superficial scratches. Waxing the area afterwards is a must as well.
