Chicago Yacht Club hosted the MISSA High School Invitational on Saturday, April 4, 2009 on Lake Michigan. Sailors representing Grosse Pointe South (MI), Loyola (IL), New Trier (IL), North Shore Country Day (IL), St Ignatius (IL),  Walter Payton (IL), & Whitney Young (IL) high schools competed.

Despite light winds (less than 5 knots from the east), Loyola Academy won the MISSA High School Invitational Regatta behind the consistent finishes of Tommy Holmberg/Melinda Lee.  The mixed squad of Walter Payton's Rachel Barch/Aaron Hoogstraten in A Division & Whitney Young's Justin Falconer with crew Madelaine Clarke of New Trier in B Division placed second followed by the team of Grosse Pointe South (Spencer Colpert, Madison Eger, Alex Hume, Steve Jones, Andrew Malley, and Sarah Schutte).  Loyola Academy won five of the ten races completed in the A Division.

In A Division, Loyola's Holmberg/Lee placed first followed by Walter Payton's Rachel Barch/Hoogstraten.  New Trier's Charley Hall/Cole Rice and North Shore Country Day's Eric Anderson/Emily Vasilou tied for third (Hall taking the second tie breaker with more 1st place finishes).  B Division was also won by Loyola followed by Grosse Pointe South and Whitney Young.

20 races were completed.

While this weekend was Spring Break for many local high schools, several MISSA sailors looked for warmer sailing weather, traveling to Long Beach, CA to participate in the 2009 CISA Advanced Racing Clinic.  Representing MISSA were William Haeger (Club 420) and Will Howard (Laser Full Rig) of Lake Forest, Stephanie Hudson (I-420) and Drew Shea (Laser Radial), and George Kutschenreuter (Club 420) of East Troy.

Assuming the ice melts in time, the next MISSA event will be the ISM Team Race Regatta hosted by the International School of Minnesota and the Lake Minnetonka Sailing School on April 18-19, 2009.
