News & Updates

From 29er.org:

Wednesday - Feb. 3:  It was a Chamber of Commerce day in Miami with warm weather and steady winds that propelled the skiffs across Biscayne Bay in a 13-15 knot breeze. Regatta winners Hannah Nattrass and Graham Biehl continued their winning ways. Despite being called over in race 9, capsizing on their gybe around the pin-end, the 2 minute handicap didn't deter them as they slowly (quickly??) sailed through the fleet making a brilliant move at the finish to cross in 2nd in front of Giulia Conti/Alessandra Angelini (ITA) and Jen Glass/Mallory Fontenot (USA).  Francisco Piccini/Sofia Tedin of Argentina sailed a consistent day of 3-4-1-3 to move into 2nd overall.  With the increase in wind, the Race Committee fondly claimed their own NASCAR circuit as the skiffs set record legs during the race. SEIKO watches were given the to top 2 teams, thanks to SEIKOs support of the 29erXX.

Tuesday-Feb. 2: the forecasted mid-teens winds never quite materialized for the day but nevertheless, the RC was able to get 5 great races in the shifty 5-8 knots winds on Biscayne Bay in Miami.  4 different teams took individual race wins during the day, but the front runner from day one, Hannah Nattrass (AUS)/Graham Biehl (USA) continue to lead the pack with 6 points.  Tied for second are Adam Roberts/David Hughes (USA) and Francisco Piccini/Sofia Tedin (ARG) with 15 pts each.  With more wind predicted for the final day of racing, anything can happen! Stay tuned.

Monday- Feb. 1: only 1 race was held today due to the wind dying and a front canceling racing for the remainder of the day.  Hannah Nattrass (AUS)/Graham Biehl (USA) won the race wire-to-wire in the 11 knot breeze.  Piet VanOs and CC Childers finished in 2nd with Francesco Piccinni and Sofia Tedin (ARG) in 3rd.

Sunday - Jan 31:That's right, the 29erXX SEIKO Superbowl event starts tomorrow - Feb 1-3 in Miami, Florida.  4 continents are represented along with several Olympic sailors and ISAF Youth World sailors.  Lots on the line for the SEIKO Superbowl title!  Follow the regatta through Facebook: 29erXX Sailing as well as www.sailgroove.org for videos and interviews and of course results at: www.29er.org.
